If you are in the market for a new ATM, and you are choosing Hyosung – One of the most frequent questions we get asked is what are the differences between the Hyosung Halo 2 and the Hyosung 2700 ATM machines. Lets take a look at the similarities and differences of each, and hopefully help you decide in the best ATM that meets your need.

What’s the Same?

So pretty much these machines are built using all the same components. The exact same components. Almost all the parts are 100% interchangeable. We are not going to bore you completely- but from a parts perspective, they are basically the same machines. The keyboard, the cash dispensers, the power supply, the printer, card reader, the display and main control boards are one in the same.

What’s Different?

Besides the aesthetics of both machines looking different….. Its not really what’s similar that’s important- its what’s different between the Hyosung 2700 and Hyosung Halo 2. The most noticeable difference between these machines is the function keys on either side of the display.  The Hyosung Halo 2 has traditional rubber buttons. The Hyosung 2700 has heat sensitive touch points. Some refer to this as a touch screen. Let us be clear- it is not a touch screen. With a touch screen, you press directly on the display itself. Some may think- OK great, more technology = more headaches. This is quite the contrary. In fact, we have sold hundreds of these ATMs over the past several years and have never replaced a single touch point function key. That being said, we have sold way more Halo 2s, and what happens over time is the paint on the rubber function keys wears away. The keys are still operational however it looses that new look. On older machines- this rubber actually deteriorates to the point where you have to replace the rubber function key caps because the buttons simply don’t work. Our Expert Opinion? Being that all the parts are the same except the function keys-  from a parts standpoint– the Hyosung 2700 is a better design over the long haul.

Another not so obvious difference is the vault design. Very simply- the Halo 2 is made with thicker steel. The Halo 2 also has added steel in vulnerable areas, like in front of the cassette. In addition to thicker and added steel- the Halo 2 also has reinforced welds. This means that the Hyosung Halo 2 should perform better in an attack than the 2700. That’s not to say the 2700 is not sturdily built – it is. However the Halo 2’s vault is far superior. Our Expert Opinion? From a security standpoint- the Hyosung Halo 2 is better designed to withstand an attack.

Another difference is price. Lets face it, price is important. To get straight to it, the 2700 is roughly $200 or 10% more than the Halo 2. That being said, we sell far more Hyosung Halo 2’s than we sell 2700’s. If you are a merchant buying one or two ATMs for your store, $200 more probably isn’t a big deal. However if you are in the ATM business, like us, and you have a fleet of these machines, If you stick with the Halo’s, by the time you have bought 10, its almost like you get a free machine with the savings. When we put out our own placements- if we are using a Hyosung, you can pretty much bet we are putting out a new Halo due to its price point. Our Expert Opinion? If you are buying one machine- price probably isn’t an issue. If you are buying multiples, saving a little can go a long way.

Who buys what model?

Its important to mention which customers are buying what machines. We typically see lots of hotels, high end bars/ restaurants/ clubs, hair and nail salons typically buy the Hyosung 2700. These are typically higher end places where security is not a concern. Check cashiers, convenience stores, gas stations, deli’s, fast food restaurants , pharmacies, and Independent ATM deplorer’s typically are buying Halo 2s.

Our Expert Opinion

Both are fantastic ATMs, but when we do our own placements- If we are going with Hyosung, we go with the Halo 2. That decision is mainly based off of price due to the number of ATMs we operate. If you are only buying one or two machines, and looking for a high tech look that would compliment your business- we would recommend the 2700. We would love to see Hyosung make the Halo 2 with the same touch points as the 2700. This would be a simple modification for them at the assembly line. Even if they raised their price slightly…..Very slightly. Like $20……
